Introducing SANCTUARY: ART AS CARE at MoAD
SANCTUARY places care at the center of the MoAD experience, inviting visitors to encounter art, themselves, and one another through attention, presence, and connection. Rooted in the belief that cultural engagement is essential to human flourishing, these programs create space for reflection, belonging, restoration, and renewal.
5-6pm SANCTUARY | The Art of Conversation
Explore how art opens conversations about identity, memory, belonging, beauty, and power through a guided tour of After the Island: Ornament and CeramicPractice in the Jamaican Diaspora. Together, we’ll use artworks as starting points for thoughtful discussion, making space for different perspectives and shared discoveries.
Join us in the MoAD Salon at 6pm for CARIBBEAN COCKTAILS: Migration, Memory, and Making Across the Diaspora. In conjunction with After the Island: Ornament and Ceramic Practice in the Jamaican Diaspora, this special First Thursday program brings together chef and cocktail creator Nelson German, James Beard Award–winning cookbook writer and culinary anthropologist Andréa Lawson Gray, in conversation moderated by Jamaican-born chef, restaurateur, and community leader Nigel Jones. Drinks & bites will follow the conversation. Learn more and register HERE.
You will have free access to our current exhibitions: Dewey Crumpler: Sonic Lineages, After the Island: Ornament & Ceramic Practice in the Jamaican Diaspora, and Dorian Reid: Calling All Cats.
